Mains on End
The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants
The Concept
Our pitch was simple. Make the type out of bubbles. Make characters out of bubbles. Bubbles. Bubbles. Bubbles.
The Process
We first collaborated with the film’s Art Directors on the character design, determining the look of the characters as bubbles—including texture, lighting, and color. Depending on their use in a scene, the bubbles were created using both 2D and 3D platforms.
Next, we focused on type design, developing a unique Spongebob Bubble Alphabet for each credit. We worked closely with the art directors to refine the lettering’s overall look and ensure legibility.
Finally, we used traditional 2D animation to bring the elements together. The bubbles subtly drift and transition, leading us in and out of different scene setups.
The Impact
Kids stay in the seats and watch the credits enamored by the bubbles!
