Main Title
Ready or Not 2: Here I Come
The Concept
Picking up immediately from the events at the end of the first film, co-directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett wanted the opening credits to remind the audience of the extreme events and posh typography of the original film while beginning to suggest the larger story that would unfold.
The Process
Starting from the base of the 2019 film, we explored designs ranging from smaller to larger evolutions of the credits as well as how they might represent the wear and tear that Grace had been through. The main title also needed to reflect the horror elements that were revealed to audiences to amp up the stakes. No need to be coy or deceptive. Our animators married different looks and techniques of the occult imagery with the raging inferno of the Le Domas home to set the stage for what lies ahead.
The Impact
The opening credits utilize the visual transitions of an optical transfer giving the names an added sense of physicality. The letter strokes complete with an unsettling drawn out effect as ligatures twist into their elegant curls. A more gnarled and beaten title card animates on against a field of deep red to definitively tell the audience that things will never be the same. Two burning columns of fire create the roman numerals for the sequel before hi-con occult imagery flashes like a warning for both Grace and the viewer.
