Mains on End
Masters of the Universe
The Concept
In our second creative partnership with director Travis Knight, Picturemill crafted a high-energy Mains on End sequence driven by an epic anthem from Brian May and The Darkness. The objective was to provide each character a dedicated moment in the spotlight without duplicating the film’s complex VFX. This resulted in a stylistically distinct celebration that remains intrinsically linked to the movie’s overall visual language.
The Process
Beginning with the logo design, Travis Knight provided a precise mandate: the title must feel “as if it were photographed.” Rejecting polished or overly digital sharpness, we engaged in a vigorous development process to craft a Main Title with a massive, theatrical presence. For the Mains on End, we utilized 3D modeled 2D geometry of our places and characters, allowing environmental lighting to react to every camera movement and character animation. The title card evolved into a transitional device, giving us melodic breaks between scenes. Driven by The Darkness and Brian May’s guitar riffs, the editorial pace and camera choreography achieved a synchronization of imagery and sound.
